Breakfast eaten and the slim camp-outfit lashed to the sled, the men turned their backs on the cheery fire and launched out into

the darkness. At once began to rise the cries that were fiercely sad—cries that called through the darkness and cold to one another and answered back. Conversation ceased. Daylight came at nine o'clock. At midday the sky to the south warmed to rose-colour, and marked where the bulge of the earth intervened between the meridian sun and the northern world. But the rose-colour swiftly faded. The grey light of day that remained lasted until three o'clock, when it, too, faded, and the pall of the Arctic night descended upon the lone and silent land.
As darkness came on, the hunting-cries to right and left and rear drew closer—so close that more than once they sent surges of fear through the toiling dogs, throwing them into short-lived panics.

At the conclusion of one such panic, when he and Henry had got the dogs back in the traces, Bill said:

"I wisht they'd strike game somewheres, an' go away an' leave us alone."

"They do get on the nerves horrible," Henry sympathized.

They spoke no more until camp was made.

"what is the nature of mrs. mallard's "heart trouble," and why would the author mention it in the first paragraph? is there any
Veseljchak [2.6K]

Although Mrs. Mallard's hear trouble appears to refer only to a physical condition, her true trouble is that, despite the fact that she is married to a good man, she is unhappy because she does not feel free. In this sense, it is symbolic of the unease that this lack of independence brings her. Also, the mention of her heart condiion at the beinning ofthe paragraph anticipates her eventual death. At first, the reader might think that it is the news of her husband's death that will cause Mrs. Mallard's own decease, but what triggers her heart attack is the revelation that the news were false, and that she has lost all the freedom that she had just begun to envision.

Westkost [7]

Answer:

B. in the Tian Shan, Vavilov had likely found the wild ancestors of the domesticated apple

Explanation:

The author most likely states that the wild apples growing in the Tian Shan looked like apples found at the local grocery store to support the point that in the Tian Shan, Vavilov had likely found the wild ancestors of the domesticated apple.

This is because, in the Tian Shan, Vavilov had discovered the wild ancestors of the domesticated apple which shows that they are similar to the apples in the local grocery store.
