The answer is C. Succession returns a disturbed ecosystem to a more stable state. This is also classified into two (2) types: Primary Succession and Secondary Succession. The Primary succession arises when a new land is transformed and a bare rock has been exposed providing an environment that can be occupied for the first time. While, secondary succession occurs when a previously occupied environment was disturbed that kills much of all its community.

What is optimal foraging theory?

It is a theory in ecology that proposes that predating animals that get the most energy from minimal efforts are favored by natural selection.

In order words, selection forces prefer investing minimum energy in order to extract maximally available energy.

In this case, the heron needs to use the lowest time to harvest the maximum energy possible. Since all the preys offer the same amount of energy, the one that requires the lowest time would be preferable for the heron.

In other words, frogs would be the most preferable prey.

Mutation creates new genetic variation in a gene pool. ... For any given gene, the chance of a mutation occurring in a given gamete is very low. Thus, mutations alone do not have much effect on allele frequencies. However, mutations provide the genetic variation needed for other forces of evolution to act.
