Since it doesn't get below about -30 degrees centigrade for 3 weeks anymore in the winter, these pests do not get killed in the winter so for probably at least 15-20 years now they have gone on the rampage and killed large swaths of our pine forests.
When the sawmills in BC saw this pine beetle-killed lumber it is so dry it creates a lot of fine dust in the mills. Due to poor control of this dust there has been two explosions in which this dust has ignited and 2 or 3 workers have been killed as a result. So in this way global warming can be deadly to human activity if extra precautions are not taken.
