We are told that a population of insects grows exponentially and we are given a table of data about insect population growth. We are asked to find population of insects at the end of week 11.

The initial insect population is 20 and at the end of 1st week population increases to 30.

Let us find growth percentage of insect  population,

\text{Growth percentage}=\frac{\text{Difference}}{Actual} \cdot100

\text{Growth percentage}=\frac{\text{30-20}}{20} \cdot100

\text{Growth percentage}=\frac{\text{10}}{20} \cdot100

\text{Growth percentage}=0.5 \cdot100=50

We can see that insect population is growing at rate of 50% per week.

Now let us write an exponential function for our population.

P(w)=20(1+0.50)^{w}, where P(w) represents population at the end of w weeks.

Let us substitute w=11 in our function to find insect population at the end of 11 weeks.

P(11)=20(1+0.50)^{11}

P(11)=20(1.50)^{11}

P(11)=20\cdot 86.49755859375

P(11)=1729.951171875\approx 1730

Therefore, population of insects at the end of 11th week will be 1730.

At 1:30 p.m., Tom leaves in his boat from a dock and heads south. He travels at a rate of 25 miles per hour. Ten minutes later,
Nadya [2.5K]

Answer: she would catch up with Tom in 1 hour.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let t represent the time it will take for Mary to catch up with Tom.

Tom leaves his boat from a dock and travels at a rate of 25 miles per hour.

Distance = speed × time

Distance travelled by Tom in t hours is

25 × t = 25t

Ten minutes later, Mary leaves the same dock in her speedboat and heads after Tom. Converting 10 minutes to hours, it becomes 10/60 hour

Time spent by Mary is (t - 10/60) hours. If she travels at a rate of 30 miles per hour, it means that the distance that she would travel in

(t - 10/60) hours is

30(t - 10/60)

= 30t - 5

By the time she catches up with Tom, they would have covered the same distance. It means that

25t = 30t - 5

30t - 25t = 5

5t = 5

t = 5/5 = 1 hour

Last year, Americans paid $2.00 per gallon of gas. This year, the price is $2.40 per gallon. What is the percent of change in th
xxTIMURxx [149]
So it's 2.40 subtract 2, which is 0.4

then put it over 2, you get 0.4/2, which is equal to 0.2

0.2= 20% so it's 20% of increase
