The Kuomintang of China is a major political party in the Taiwan Area of the Republic of China (ROC). The predecessor of the KMT, the Revolutionary Alliance (Tongmenghui), was one of the major advocates of the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of ChinaGeneral and leader of Nationalist China after 1925. Although he succeeded Sun Yat-sen as head of theKuomintang<span>, he became a military dictator whose major </span>goal<span> was to crush the communist movement led by Mao Zedong.
