There were things that Jem did which were not of his usual self. Some of which Jem yanked Scout by her hair as she shrieked and didn't seem to care that he was hurting his sister, until the point he kicked her and she fell on her face. From these actions, one can tell that anger truly brings out the worse in people. He lost his senses and allowed his emotions to control him and hurt those who were around him.
