A mass sitting on a horizontal, frictionless surface is attached to one end of a spring; the other end is fixed to a wall. 3.0 J

of work is required to compress the spring by 0.12 m. If the mass is released from rest with the spring compressed, the mass experiences a maximum acceleration of 15 m/s2 Find the value of (a) the spring stiffness constant and (b) the mass.

Given Information:

Work done = W = 3.0 J

compressed length = x = 0.12 m

acceleration = α = 15 m/s²

Required Information:

(a) spring constant = k = ?

(b) mass = m = ?

Answer:

(a) spring constant = 416.67

(b) mass = 3.33 kg

Explanation:

(a)

We are given a mass spring system,

We know that work done is given by

W = ½kx²

Where W is the work done, k is the spring constant and x is the compressed length of the spring.

Re-arranging the equation for spring constant k yields,

k = 2W/x²

k = 2*3/0.12²

k = 416.67

(b)

We know that force is given by

F = kx

We also know from the Newton's second law that

F = mα

equating both equations yields,

mα = kx

m = kx/α

m = (416.67*0.12)/15

m = 3.33 kg

Algol consists of a 3.7 msun main-sequence star and a 0.8 msun subgiant. why does this seem surprising, at least at first?
Aleonysh [2.5K]
The two stars should be the same age, so we'd expect the subgiant to be more massive than the main-sequence star.

How is vibrational motion connected to waves?
frozen [14]

Answer:

Explanation:

Waves and wave functions are direct ways to graph vibrational motion. Specifically, for cases dealing with vibrating strings. If you were to move a tensioned string up and down with your arm, you would produce a wave with a given frequency, period, and amplitude.

A foot is 12 inches and a mile is 5280I ft exactly. A centimeter is exactly 0.01m or mm. Sammy is 5 feet and 5.3tall. what is Sa
julia-pushkina [17]

Answer:

65.3 Inches tall

Explanation:

If Sammy is 5 feet and 5.3 inches tall, we simply need to convert the feet to inches, and sum the remaining inches from his height to determine his overall height in inches.

So, 5 feet = (12 inches/1foot) * (5 feet) = 60 inches

And 60 inches + 5.3 inches = 65.3 inches.

Hence, Sammy is 65.3 inches tall.

Cheers.

write down the interrelationship between distance covered , initial velocity and timetaken by a moving body.
Tamiku [17]

Answer:

s = v_it + \frac{1}{2}at^2

Explanation:

The interrelationship between the distance covered by a body, the initial velocity of the body, and the time taken by the moving body during its motion is given by the second equation of motion.

The second equation of motion is given as follows:

s = v_it + \frac{1}{2}at^2

where,

s = the distance covered by the body

vi = initial velocity of the body

t = time taken by the body during motion

a = acceleration of the body
