Huck Finn is thirteen years old.

Huck is conscientious, bright (albeit academically illiterate), and prepared to reach his own conclusions about critical issues, even if these findings go against society's conventions.

Twain establishes right away in the book that Huck is a young man from the lowest strata of white society. Huck is distrustful of the world and the ideals it instills in him since he is cut off from the mass of civilization.
