Answer:

0.24 rounded to the nearest hundredth.

Step-by-step explanation:

21 Defective out of 100.

Five out of those 21 were from Greens, so given it was defective....

5/21 = 0.24 rounded to the nearest hundredth.

The likelihood of selecting a lens that is defective is determined by two factors:
1) The likelihood of selecting one company over another
2) The percent chance of getting a defective lens from that company.
Probability of selecting a Greens Lens: 60/100
Probability of selecting a Parsons Lens: 15/100
Probability of selecting a Ratten Lens: 25/100
So, from that list, we then multiply against the defect rate to determine the likelihood of selecting a company AND a defective lens:
Probability of selecting a defective Greens Lens=(3/5)*(1/25)=3/125
Probability of selecting a defective Parsons lens=(3/20)*(1/10)=3/200
Probability of selecting a defective Ratten Lens=(1/4)*(3/50)= 3/200
I cannot tell from the answer you posted whether or not you needed defective or non-defective rates, so here are the nondefective probabilities:
Probability of selecting a NON-defective Greens Lens=(3/5)*(11/20)=33/100
Probability of selecting a NON-defective Parsons lens=(3/20)*(1/20)=3/400
Probability of selecting a NON-defective Ratten Lens=(1/4)*(19/100)=19/400

What shows the possible outcomes of a random experiment and the probability of each outcome?
Katarina [22]

The possible outcomes of a random experiment and the probability of each outcome is called "a Probability Distribution."

What is a Probability Distribution?

A probability is a statistical formula that indicates all of the potential values and probability distributions for a random variable within a specified range.

Some characteristics regarding the Probability Distribution are-

 • The range will be bounded by the minimum and greatest possible values, but the precise location of the possible value just on probability distribution relies on a number of factors.
 • These variables include the mean (average), standard deviation, skewness, & kurtosis of the distribution.
 • Although other regularly used probability distributions exist, the normal distribution, called "bell curve," is perhaps the most common.
 • Typically, the technique of generating data for a phenomenon will influence its probability distribution. This is known as the probability density function.
 • Likelihood distributions can also be used to generate cumulative distribution functions (CDFs), that cumulatively build up the probability of occurrences and always begin at zero and end at 100%.
