The war on cancer is the effort to find a cure to cancer by increased research to improve the understanding of cancer biology and the development of more effective cancer treatments, such as targeted drug therapies. It was a really old Spanish church that was run down and deteriorating. During the invasion of Texas ( not the u.s. yet ) he had fortefied it with men and lots of guns and cannons. People had lived there and it was really like an old compound. Hope this helps !!
