Johnny Cade is a young boy, he is only 16 years old and belongs to a group known as The Greasers. Johnny is an unprotected boy, who suffers from abuse at home, so the greasers ar for him his real family because it is there and with them where he finds protection. This is the irony, becasue he finds in a group of strangers the protection he does not in his house.

The greasers offered Johnny a place to be, and someone to care about him. This is ironic because parents are supposed to care about their child, but it seems as if johnny's friends, who are "Hoods", care more about him.
I actually read this book a while ago.
