A commemorative monument or artwork is an object that serves to commemorate a person who is usually already dead, or some significant event that happened and that is worthy of constant remembrance. Historically, they can also be misused to promote a variety of political ideologies. It can be a museum on the site of the event, it can be statues, sculptures, fountains, monoliths or entire parks. Commemorative plaques can be found on the streets of all cities that have at least some historical tradition. The most frequently used material for the construction of classical monuments are various types of stone.
