In the 1760's Englad passed two Acts: the Sugar Act, which imposed taxes on sugar and banned Americans from trading with France; and the Stamp Act, which required Americans to pay duties directly to England and forced them to buy stamps for all printed material.

This enraged Americans, who were no longer willing to pay taxes as long as they were not representated in the English Parliament and was one of the main causes for the American Revolution.
