One airplane is at 7,000 feet and is descending 50 feet every second. Another plane is at
kari74 [83]

Given:

One airplane is at 7,000 feet and is descending 50 feet every second.

Another plane is at  1,000 feet and is climbing at a rate of 70 feet per second.

To find:

The time taken by planes to reach at the same height.

Solution:

Let x be the number of seconds after which the planes be at the same height.

One airplane is at 7,000 feet and is descending 50 feet every second.

Change in 1 second = -50 feet   (Here negative sign means decrease)

Change in x second = -50x feet

Height of first airplane after x seconds is

f(x)=7000-50x           ...(i)

Another plane is at  1,000 feet and is climbing at a rate of 70 feet per second.

Change in 1 second = 70 feet

Change in x second = 70x feet

Height of first airplane after x seconds is

g(x)=1000+70x     ...(ii)

Equate (i) and (ii), to find the time after which both planes are on the same height.

7000-50x=1000+70x

7000-1000=50x+70x

6000=120x

Divide both sides by 120.

50=x

Therefore, both planes are at the same height after 50 seconds.

Scott fills a container with sugar using a bowl. The bowl hold 1/4 cup of sugar. Scott uses 8 full bowls to fill the container.
liraira [26]

Answer:

Container holds 2 cups of Sugar.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Amount of Sugar bowl contains = \frac{1}{4} \ cup

Number of bowls container is filled with = 8

We need find the number of cups of sugar container holds.

Solution:

Now number of cups of sugar container holds can be calculated by Multiplying Amount of Sugar bowl contains with Number of bowls container is filled with.

framing in equation form we get;

number of cups of sugar container holds = \frac{1}{4}\times8 = 2 \ cups

Hence Container holds 2 cups of Sugar.

Y=2x2-4x-5 if x=-2 what is y
kkurt [141]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

y = 2x^2 - 4x - 5.......if x = -2

so sub in -2 for x

y = 2(-2^2) - 4(-2) - 5

   = 2(4) + 8 - 5

   =  8 + 8 - 5

   = 11 <==== y is 11
