Answer:

Elya looks for Zeroni ⇒ Elya courts Myra ⇒ Elya forgets his promise ⇒ Stanley is bullied ⇒ Stanley finds sneakers ⇒ Stanley is arrested ⇒ Stanley gets to camp ⇒ Stanley digs a hole.

Explanation:

Stanley Yelnats' great-great-grandfather, Elya Yelnats wants to marry Myra Menke but does not have the resources required so he looks for Madame Zeroni. Upon finding and talking to her and conditional on a promise, she gives him a pig which he was give water to from a certain stream and it would grow.

The pig grows but when Elya courts Myra he is disappointed by her dimwittedness and heads to America which led him to forget that he did not fulfil the promise to Madame Zeroni which led her to curse him and his descendants.

Back in the present, Stanley Yelnats is bullied at school by Derrick Dunne who throws his notebook in the toilet. Upon retrieving it he finds that he had missed the school bus and so has to walk home. On his way he finds sneakers as they fall upon his head and as he runs home to give them to his father who had a shoe cleaning experiment, he was stopped and arrested by police for sneaker theft.

He is then sent to Camp Green Lake where he digs a hole.
