Answer: 3.87M of HI remains after 27.3 s

Explanation:

Using the Second order decomposition equation of

1/[H]t =K x t +1/[A]o

Given initial concentration ,[A]o = 4.78M

time, t = 27.3 s

rate of constant , k= 1.80 x 10^-3 M-1s-1

1/[H] t= 1/[A] t= concentration after time, t=?

SOLUTION

1/[A] t =kt +1/[A]o

1/[A] t =(1.80 x 10^-3 (27.3)+1/4.78

0.04914+0.2092=0.2583

1/[A] t =0.2583

[A] t =1/0.2583= 3.87M

A galvanic (voltaic) cell consists of an electrode composed of chromium in a 1.0 M chromium(III) ion solution and another electr
svetlana [45]

Answer: The potential of the following electrochemical cell is 1.08 V.

Explanation:

E^0_(Cr^{3+}/Cr)=-0.74V[/tex]

E^0_(Cu^{2+}/Cu)=0.34V[/tex]

The element with negative reduction potential will lose electrons undergo oxidation and thus act as anode. The element with positive reduction potential will gain electrons undergo reduction and thus acts as cathode.

Here Cr undergoes oxidation by loss of electrons, thus act as anode. copper undergoes reduction by gain of electrons and thus act as cathode.

2Cr+3Cu^{2+}\rightarrow 2Cr^{3+}+3Cu

E^0=E^0_{cathode}- E^0_{anode}

Where both E^0 are standard reduction potentials, when concentration is 1M.

E^0=E^0_{[Cu^{2+}/Ni]}- E^0_{[Cr^{3+}/Cr]}

E^0=0.34-(-0.74)=1.08V

Thus the potential of the following electrochemical cell is 1.08 V.

If the gold in the crown was mixed with a less-valuable metal like bronze or copper, how would that affect its density?
Sindrei [870]

Answer: If the gold in the crown was mixed with a less-valuable metal such as bronze of copper then this affects its density by making it to weigh even more and if it weighs more then it has less of chance to float. Observe: Drag each of the crowns into the liquid.

Select the correct answer. When an atom in a reactant loses electrons, what happens to its oxidation number? A. Its oxidation nu
vfiekz [6]

Answer:

C. Its oxidation number increases.

Explanation:

 • Oxidation is defined as the loss of electrons by an atom while reduction is the gain of electrons by an atom.
 • Atoms of elements have an oxidation number of Zero in their elemental state.
 • When an atom looses electrons it undergoes oxidation and its oxidation number increases.
 • For example, an atom of sodium (Na) at its elemental state has an oxidation number of 0. When the sodium atom looses an electrons it becomes a cation, Na+, with an oxidation number of +1 , the loss of electron shows an increase in oxidation number from 0 to +1.
