Sophocles is one of the most important ancient writers of tragedians whose tragedies are known today. The most famous Sophocles work is Antigone, in which he uses an allusion to trigger and create a certain feeling in audition. That feeling he accomplishes with his allusion to Hades and Acheron is a fear and pity for Antigone. An educated ancient audience would instantly realize the allusion and create a gloomy picture and mood.
