Both memorizing spelling rules and frequent reading will help you improve your reading. However, it is difficult to remember all of the rules. Some rules like "i" before "e" except after "c" are easy to remember, but there are some exceptions to the rule. By reading frequently, you will become familiar with how words are spelled from seeing them written often.
"Day and night cannot dwell together" and "as the morning mist flees before the morning sun" are analogies because they are comparisons between two things, typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification.
