I attached the picture associated with this question.

Answer:
x = 2
y = 5

Explanation:
ABCD is a parallelogram. This means that each two opposite sides are equal.
This means that:
1- AB = CD
2y + 1 = 7x - 3 ...........> equation I
2- AD = BC
3x = y + 1
This can be rewritten as:
y = 3x - 1............> equation II

Substitute with equation II in equation I and solve for x as follows:
2y + 1 = 7x - 3 ...........> equation I
2(3x - 1) + 1 = 7x - 3
6x - 2 + 1 = 7x - 3
6x - 1 = 7x - 3
7x - 6x = -1 + 3
x = 2

Substitute with x in equation I to get y as follows:
y = 3x - 1
y = 3(2) - 1
y = 6 - 1
y = 5

Hope this helps :)

inna [77]

Answer:

5/24 or 20.8%

Step-by-step explanation:

Probability that the 7th grader is a boy = number of boys/(total kids) = 4/(4+4) = 1/2

Probability that the 8th grader is a boy = 5/(5+7) = 5/12

Probability that both are boys = 1/2*(5/12) = 5/24 or 20.8%

In how many ways can 6 competitors finish a race assuming there are no ties?In how many ways can we sit n people on r < n cha
VLD [36.1K]

Answer:  a) 720, b) ^nC_r=\dfrac{n!}{(n-r)!r!} c) 336, d) 30240 e) 120.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

a) Number of competitors  = 6

We need to find the number of ways that 6 competitors can finish a race and there are no ties.

So, Number of ways would be

6!=720

b) number of people = n

Number of chairs = r (r<n)

so, the number of ways we can sit n people on r<n chairs is given by

^nC_r=\dfrac{n!}{(n-r)!r!}

c) If there are three awards :

Gold, silver, bronze.

We need to find the number of ways that these medals can be awarded.

Number of ways is given by

^8P_3\\\\=336

d) Number of 5-digit zip codes are possible is given by

^{10}P_5=30240

e) Number of poeple = 10

Number of people required in committee = 3

Number of different 3 person committee that are selected from 10 people is given by

^{10}C_3=120

Hence, a) 720, b) ^nC_r=\dfrac{n!}{(n-r)!r!} c) 336, d) 30240 e) 120.
