In order to understand the answer we first have to understand the synapsis process. Synapsis occurs when the neuron release certain electrochemical impulses to excite another cell. Now, drugs are external neurotransmitters that can also excite a neuron having different effects that might make the neuron stop working for overexcitement or sickness. Once a drug is inside the organism it can be expelled. However, the receptor proteins involved in the synapse can't modify their shape to expel the neurotransmitter molecules. The only way the organism has to expel a drug from itself is by draining fluids and tissue that will also drag the involves cells in the experience.
