What does “separate, but equal” mean, and why is it important in the text Plessy v. Furguson?

English

Answer: "Separate, but equal" meant that African Americans could not use vehicles or go to the same places as the white people, but they would be the same. This is important in the Plessy v. Ferguson case because Plessy was a one-eighth black man and when the conductor asked him if he was a black man, he said "Yes". Due to the fact that he claimed he was a black man, he was told to get off, but refused to do so. Even if he was one-eight black, it didn't matter to the conductor because Plessy was still somewhat black. Since Plessy was black, he was not technically allowed to ride on the "White Only" train because they were supposed to be segregated. The effect of Plessy's decision in the end was that segregation became law and it spread over America like wildfire.

Use the "myth" and "fact" structure to answer the questions. what is the function of the second sentence in the "fact" paragraph
lisabon 2012 [21]

In this text, sentence 2 of the fact is used to disprove the myth. On the other hand, the two sections allow the reader to understand two perspectives on the same issue.

<h3>What is this text about?</h3>

This text focuses on bacteria growth and cooking by providing two perspectives:

  • The myth, or common belief.
  • The fact or scientific perspective.

<h3>What is the function of the second sentence in "fact"?</h3>

The sentence "because the drop in temperature allows bacteria to thrive" explains the reason why the myth is false.

<h3>Why are the two sections included?</h3>

It is likely the author wants to show the contrast between myth and reality and allow the reader to understand how cooking affects bacteria growth.

Note: This question is incomplete; here is the missing section:

Myth #8: Once food has been cooked, all the bacteria have been killed, so I don't need to worry once it's "done."

Fact: The possibility of bacterial growth actually increases after cooking, because the drop in temperature allows bacteria to thrive. This is why keeping cooked food warmed to the right temperature is critical for food safety.

While reading ‘’the Raven’’ you always come on phrase ‘’nevermore’’ (as everybody knows it is the only word he knows) replied by the Raven. The repetition of this word is actually the main point that creates a unity of effect of longing <span>in the poem which reveals the sadness and despair that author wanted to bring to the reader by repeating.</span></span>
