That would be a budget. When on a budget you plan out what your going to buy (for groceries etc) and how much you are able to spend on certain things. You put away a certain amount of money and only spend a certain amount

After the American colonies won their freedom from England, the thirteen colonies became thirteen states. The new states decided to work together. Their system of government was described in the Articles of Confederation. In this system, the state governments had most of the power. The Federal Government was very weak. This was very different from the government under the King of England.

The Founding Fathers thought that this system left the nation too weak. They decided to develop a new system of government. They wrote a new document called the Constitution, to replace the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution made a stronger Federal Government. It gave power to both the Federal Government and the state governments. This system is called federalism.

Here are some examples of how powers are shared between the Federal Government and state governments.

The rights of the English citizens were strengthened in the following ways:

1. In the year 1215, the Magna Carta, was written by King John. In this document, he stated that the king and members of the throne were under the same laws as the citizens.

  • That is they were not above the British law. They were to follow the same laws as the citizens.

2. In the year 1265, the British house of parliament was formed to see to the creation of laws in the country.

3. In 1689, the English Bill of rights was created by the parliament. The bill established several rights for citizens.

  • The right established that the people could not be taxed without consent from the parliament
