This is how you do it.

y = a(x - 3)(x - 8)
<span>-2 = a(-1 - 3)(-1 - 8) </span>
<span>-2 = 36a </span>
<span>- 1 / 18 = a </span>
<span>y = ( - 1 / 18)(x^2 - 11x + 24) </span>
<span>y = (- 1 / 18)x^2 + (11 / 18)x - (3 / 2)
</span>
If this doesn't explain it enough, please, ask questions.

PERSEVERE Find the values of x and y,
Vlad [161]

y² = 8y - 15 (alternate angles are equal)

y² - 8y + 15 = 0

(y - 5)(y - 3) = 0

y = 5 or 3

x + 8y - 15 = 180 (angles in a straight line add up to 180)

when y = 5

x + 40 - 15 = 180

x = 155°

when y = 3

x + 24 - 15 = 180

x = 171°

Answer:

\cos(D) = 0.2195

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

The attached triangle

Required

\cos(D)

This is calculated as:

\cos(D) = \frac{Adjacent}{Hypotenuse}

So, we have:

\cos(D) = \frac{1.8}{8.2}

\cos(D) = 0.2195
