Ok so since the ratio is 7:5 that means you have an 8'' sandwich with 12 (7+5) separate units. imagine drawing the sandwich and dividing it into 12 sections.

so 8/12= .6666666 (thats the length of 1 unit)
now take .6666666 x 7 units = 4.6666666 inches '' (thats the bigger half)now take .6666666 x 5 units = 3.333333333 inches (thats the shorter half)
