Emphasize - Accentuated: As she took her stance for a short mashie shot, Dexter looked at her closely. She wore a blue gingham dress, rimmed at throat and shoulders with a white edging that accentuated her tan.

In this passage it is saying that the white edging of the dress made the darkness of her skin stand out. Emphasize means the same as stand out of accentuate.

Childish sulkiness or bad-temper - petulance: During dinner she slipped into a moody depression which gave Dexter a feeling of uneasiness. Whatever petulance she uttered in her throaty voice worried him.

She is described as being in a moody depression. This best fits with the definition of sulkiness or bad-temper.

Practical, Ordinary - mundane: "You're not. I like you. But I've just had a terrible afternoon. There was a man I cared about, and this afternoon he told me out of a clear sky that he was poor as a church-mouse. He'd never even hinted it before. Does this sound horribly mundane?"

Another word for mundane is ordinary. Mundane is used to give ordinary a more boring connotation.

At the end of chapter 10 how does Huck decide he will get information from town
inn [45]

Answer: Huck wonders about the dead man, but Jim warns that it’s bad luck to think about such things. Huck has already incurred bad luck, according to Jim, by finding and handling a snake’s shed skin. Sure enough, bad luck comes: as a joke, Huck puts a dead rattlesnake near Jim’s sleeping place, and its mate comes and bites Jim. Jim’s leg swells but gets better after several days. A while later, Huck decides to go ashore to get information. Jim agrees, but has Huck disguise himself as a girl, using one of the dresses they took from the houseboat. Huck practices his girl impersonation and then sets out for the Illinois shore. In a formerly abandoned shack, he finds a woman who looks about forty years old and appears to be a newcomer to the town. Huck is relieved because, as a newcomer, the woman will not be able to recognize him. Still, he resolves to remember that he is pretending to be a girl.

Explanation:

A ukulele and a machete have a surprising amount in common, actually. Not the knife, mind you, but the Portuguese machete de braga. Back before the Hawaiian Islands were annexed by the United States, it was introduced to by Portuguese immigrants from the island of Madeira. The immigrants celebrated their arrival with traditional folksongs accompanied on a little four-string machete. In two weeks time, the Hawaiian Gazette was reporting about a band of Portuguese musicians delighting people with nightly concerts. Three Portuguese cabinetmakers, probably finding the furniture market not as lucrative as they had hoped, capitalized on the instruments’ new found popularity by opening their own machete stores.

The instrument was eventually redesigned and became the ukulele we are all familiar with. It was made of koa, a native Hawaiian wood long associated with royalty on the islands. This, along with the adoption of the ukulele…show more content…

Novelty ukes became a thing during an era of mass production and Americanization. It was not until the introduction of big band music in the 1930s that this fad ended.

Popularity for the ukulele grew once again in the 1950s, however, with the use of it in radio, television, and movies. It became enormously popular due to its use and immortalization by pop culture icons like Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. This second wave of popularity receded in the 1970s due to the unintimidating instrument’s inability to compete with the guitar as psychedelic rock, heavy metal, and punk gained popularity.
