The Earth is divided into degrees of longitude and latitude which helps us measure location and time using a single standard. ... Longitude and latitude lines measure the distance from the Earth's Equator or central axis - running east to west - and the Prime Meridian in Greenwich, England - running north to south.

Why is Europe often considered seprate from asia?
Bond [772]

Answer:

The boundary between Europe and Asia is bizarre among mainland boundaries since of its to a great extent mountain-and-river-based characteristics north and east of the Black Ocean.

Europe is considered a separate continent from Asia because of its distinct historical, cultural and political identity, rather than any clear geographical demarcation.

A large part of Turkey lies in Asia, however, culturally and politically, it has been closer to Europe and therefore sees itself as a European country.

What is the purpose of a geological time scale ?
horrorfan [7]

The correct answer is C. It is used to determine the absolute dates in years for different periods.

Explanation

The geological timescale is a tool that has been developed over the years by geologists to establish a frame of reference in which important events in the history of the Earth and life are represented in chronological order. This scale is organized from divisions and subdivisions, from the relative age of the rocks according to their relative age and the absolute time elapsed since the formation of the Earth to the present. Through this scale it has been possible to establish historical periods such as when dinosaurs lived. So the correct answer is C.

What factors are most significant in describing the climate of a region?
viva [34]
Use the latitude and longitude to also realise the distance from the region to the sun. E.g Hawaii is located close to the equator, which means the distance from Hawaii to the sun is smaller compared to New Zealand and the sun because New Zealand is much further from the equator. This is means Hawaii receives more intense sun rays, therefore experiences a very tropical climate. New Zealand on the other hand is much further from the sun so experiences less intense sun rays, and therefore has a mild climate.
Another factor to consider is the intertropical convergence zone, a belt of converging trade winds and rising air that encircles the earth near the equator. Variation in the location of the intertropical convergence zone drastically affects rainfall in many equatorial regions, resulting in the wet and dry seasons of the tropics rather than the cold and warm seasons of higher latitudes.
