1) Ecology is the scientific study of the distribution and abundance of organisms, the interaction among organisms, and the interactions between organisms and their abiotic environment. Ecologists try to understand the inner workings of natural ecosystems and the species they contain.

2) Ecosystems have no particular size. An ecosystem can be as large as a desert or a lake or as small as a tree or a puddle. If you have a terrarium, that is an artificial ecosystem. The water, water temperature, plants, animals, air, light and soil all work together.

3) The biotic factors of an ecosystem include all the populations in a habitat, such as all the species of plants, animals, and fungi, as well as all the micro-organisms. Also recall that the nonliving factors are called abiotic factors. Abiotic factors include temperature, water, soil, and air.

4) For aquatic ecosystems, these factors include light levels, water flow rate, temperature, dissolved oxygen, acidity (pH), salinity and depth.

Hope this helped. ;)

Gas makes things buoyant, why ? And what are ways that this could be useful?
ryzh [129]

Answer:

Gas makes things buoyant by making the volume of an object lighter than the surrounding fluid it is trying to displace.

Gas Buoyancy is useful in the following ways;

• Airships

• Steel ships and

• All floating and flying vessels

Explanation:

Buoyancy is the tendency of an object to float in a fluid such as air or water. It is a phenomenon that was theorized by the mathematician, Archimedes known as the Archimedes Principle.

It states that the upward buoyant force that is exerted on a body immersed in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid that the body displaces.

The principle explains the reason why objects float and fly.

So, when an object is immersed in a fluid, it can float due to the upward force exerted by the fluid on the object. But for this to happen, the object has to weigh less than the fluid it is displacing.

This is where the use of a gas comes into play.

Because the object may be heavier than the surrounding fluid it is trying to displace, it is filled with a large amount of gas (usually hydrogen and/or helium) which is lighter. This makes the volume of the gas and the object put together lighter than that of the surrounding air.

This is what causes objects to float or fly

Biotechnology is a growing field of applied biology. Many crops, such as corn, have been engineered to be resistant to herbicide
Aloiza [94]

Answer:

Corn crop is resistant to herbicides because they are genetically modified through genetic engineering. There are some bacteria which are resistant to herbicides i. e. no effect of chemicals on that bacteria. So the biotechnologist take a gene from this resistant bacteria and induced it in the corn plant which becomes the part of their genetic makeup. So when we apply herbicide, the gene produces some enzymes which cancel the adverse affect of herbicide and only weeds are affected.
