Francis Grund was a German nobleman who traveled in the United States during the 1830s. Here he describes what he saw as the ori

gin of the antebellum reform spirit.
Religion has been the basis of the most important American settlements; religion kept their little community together – religion assisted them in their revolutionary struggle; it was religion to which they appealed in defending their liberties. It was with the solemnities of religion that the declaration of independence is yet annually read to the people from the pulpit…and it is religion, which assists them in all their national undertakings. The Americans look upon religion as a promoter of civil and political liberty.

What, according to Grund, was the inspiration behind Americans’ “civil and political reforms”?

Answer:

The Second Great Awakening

Explanation:

According to Francis Grund, religion is the basis upon which Americans were able to build their society. This society is based on civil and political liberty. Grund argues that Americans relied on religion from the very beginning in order to keep communities together. This religious spirit was refined during the period known as The Second Great Awakening. This movement led to a revival of religious passion and belief among Americans. This spirit continues to carry society, uniting the country under the idea of freedom and religion.

1. Why do you think it is
Rudik [331]

Answer:

I think that it's critical because in order to be drawn into wanting to prove a point, or sell a product, then you have to see what point are made and what language they used to put that point across. Also, when you are trying to use persuasive strategies, it's good to be aware of what persuasive strategies you used so u draw the reader to your side.

Which of these was a result of the Law of Return of 1950? A) The United Nations turned over the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt. B) The
Lunna [17]

Correct answer:  B) The population of the newly created Israeli state grew rapidly.

Context/details:

Jewish settlers had been coming into Palestine since the late 1800s.  During the years following World War I, that population stream continued to grow.

After World War II ended, the United Nations (UN) adopted a plan for the partition of Palestine that would create a portion of that territory as the state of Israel.  Arabs in the region and surrounding Arab nations were not in favor of this.  On May 14, 1948, the Jewish leaders in the land proclaimed their independence as a nation, and a war with Arab peoples and nations in the region followed.  Israel won that war and established itself as a nation.  The new state of Israel was granted membership in the UN in 1949.

In 1950, the Israeli government passed the "Law of Return," which said that "every Jew has the right to come to this country."  In their minds, they were returning to the land of their ancestors.  Many people of Jewish ancestry did go to become citizens of Israel.   At the time that Israel declared its independence in May, 1948, the Israeli population was 806,000.  By 1960, a decade after the Law of Return had passed, the population had more than doubled, to 2.2 million.  By the end of the 20th century a few decades later, Israel's population grew to nearly 6½ million.
