During the drafting of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, early Americans debated how much power states and the federal go
vernment should have and what kind of balance would be best to maintain a democratic government. This Federalist versus Anti-Federalist debate continued through the first four US elections. In fact, it's still a subject of debate in the twenty-first century. Discuss what you think about this issue today. Do you think the federal government has too much power? The wrong kinds of power? Is the federal government better at managing some things than states are? Are states better at managing some things than the federal government? Include examples and reasons for your claims.
I think that eventhough, Federal Government has too much power and is it wanted it could change the life of their citizens from one day to another, it also gives to the states to act with freedom and decide how to live in society in their terrotories with their own laws. This a positive feature of the Federal Government, allowing the states to act with certain freedom and ruling their territories by them selves.
In my opinion there are not good or bad powers, but there good or bad people so it does not depend on the powers, it dependes on the people that has them and how they use it. For example the Federal Government gives the states to choose if the marijuana is legal or not in their territories and nowadays sevral states legalized it and others do not. In this case for example it dependes on the control that the State Government does over this matter and that pople respect the rules of how to use it and consume it. This matter is really important and affects the economy of the United States, but if the Federal and the State Government cooperate to control and give this industry a conscious and responsible use, this is a good choice that both authorities are making.
The XYZ Affair had a lasting impact on the U.S., even after peace was restored. The U.S. was not at all prepared for a naval battle, so the Department of the Navy was created in 1798 to oversee all naval affairs. Negative feelings about France resulted in the Alien and Sedition Acts in 1798
An incident in which french agents attempted to get a bribe and loans from US diplomats in exchange for an agreement that French privateers would no longer attack American ships. It led to an undeclared Naval War between the two countries.
