Symbol: often understood as a word that stands as representation of an idea or a concept.

Simile: this is a form of metaphor where the comparison between two unassociated terms is accomplished in language through the use of words such as “like”. Love is like fire, for example.  

Figure: according to some, like Lyotard, a figure is a characterized type that is defined in contrast to background and heterogeneous information.

Metaphor: is a figure of speech in which two things are associated by means of direct comparison, that is to say, unlike the simile, the metaphor establishes the comparison directly. Love is fire, for example.  

Image: according to some, like Bergson, an image is the mental representation of objects as they are interlaced with categories of the mind and time.
