Here's a completion of the passage in the question, and the likely answer:

(I believe you are asked to complete the passage, and find the missing words).

Fortunately, in that moment of “desperate extremity,” the Powhatans brought food and rescued the starving strangers. A year later, several hundred more settlers arrived, and again they quickly ran out of provisions. They were forced to eat “dogs, cats, rats, and mice,” even “CORPSES” dug from graves. “Some have licked up the blood which hathfallen from their weak fellows,” a survivor reported. “One member of our colony murdered his wife, ripped the child out of her womb and threw it into the river, and after chopped the mother in pieces and salted her for his food, the same not being discovered before he had eaten part thereof.” “So great was our famine,” John Smith stated, “that a savage we slew and buried, the poorer sort took him up again and ate him; and so did diverse one another boiled and stewed with roots and herbs.”

As a writer, I like to start my books off with a brief intro of the main character (for example

"Hi my name is _______ I am ___ years old and _______.  My life was normal  until blank."

Not exactly that way, but i just like giving the readers a chance to get to known the main character before the actual story begins.

Hope this helps :)

Allie considered it carefully, and ______ decided to train for the marathon herself. Which type of pronoun would best complete t
g100num [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

The correct answer is B. subjective.

In order to complete this sentence, you need to use a subjective pronoun. That pronoun would be SHE, as in - '... she decided to train for the marathon herself.' An objective pronoun would be HER, which is obviously incorrect. An intensive and a reflexive pronouns look the same - HERSELF. As a matter of fact, there is an intensive pronoun in the sentence above - the last word.

How did Dahl use Mary's THOUGHTS to characterize her
a_sh-v [17]

Answer:

Mary is carefully characterized from the opening lines of "Lamb to the Slaughter" as a woman whose entire life revolves around her husband. Even before her name is mentioned, it is clear that she has made the room warm and cozy and set out drinks and glasses in anticipation of his return. The first action she performs is to glance at the clock. Although Dahl says that she does this "without anxiety," his description makes it evident that she is waiting for the really important part of her day to begin. At a certain time, she begins to listen for the sounds of his car arriving. The rest of her calm, quiet existence is merely a preparation for the time she spends with Patrick.
