In general terms, there are three main rhetorical devices used by writers and speakers to persuade the audience this includes the logos that relies on facts and logic, the pathos that relies on emotions and the ethos that relies on ethics and the credibility of the author. In the case of ethos as this appeal uses the credibility of the author such as his knowledge, expertise or experience in the subject or topic he is explaining, this appeal allows the author to gain the personal trust of the audience as the audience will believe everything said by this author can be trusted just because of him. Therefore, the rhetorical device in which an author attempts to gain the audience's personal trust is the Ethos.
