The sum (addition) of one-half (\frac{1}{2}) and four (4) times (multiplication) a number (n) is equal to (=) five-sixths (\frac{5}{6}) subtracted from (subtraction) five (5) times (multiplication) the same number (n).

 \frac{1}{2} + 4n =  5n - <span>\frac{5}{6}   Multiply both sides by 6
</span>\frac{6}{2} + 4n = 5n - 5   Simplify the fraction
3 + 4n = 5n - 5   Subtract 5n from both sides
3 - n = -5   Subtract 3 from both sides
-n = -8   Divide both sides by -1
n = 8

True or False: The relation {(3, 2), (1, 2), (7, –5), (11, 6), (17, –4), (13, 8)} is a function.
8090 [49]

Answer:

False

Step-by-step explanation:

This is because if you have a function which is Y=2x-4 , then trying to give an example using the given points which (3,2) , here we will have Y=2 upon replacing 3 in the function cause 3 is the value of x and vice versa if we have 2 as the value of Y then x will be 3 . However,if we get the (1,2) the answer for Y will be -2 which is different from the one we have in the question hence this concludes false

a. Show that the system of rational expressions is closed under addition, or give an example showing the contrary.
otez555 [7]
A "rational expression" is a fraction in which the numerator and the denominator are both polynomials. The sum of two such expressions will always produce another such expression, viz.,
<span>p(x)/q(x) + r(x)/s(x) = [p(x)s(x) + q(x)r(x)] / [q(x)*s(x)]. </span>
<span>The numerator and denominator of the sum will both be polynomials when fully expanded</span>
