What were two of the compromises during the constitutional convention
fiasKO [112]
Two of the compromises in the Constitutional Convention were the Great Compromise (also called the Connecticut Compromise) and the 3/5 Compromise.

The Great Compromise settled the dispute between the states with large populations and the states with smaller populations.  The small states wanted representation in the government to be equal for everyone, so that they weren't overpowered by the big states.  The big states wanted representation in the government to be based on population, because they have more people, thus think that they are deserving of a bigger say in the government.  Connecticut delegate Roger Sherman proposed the Great Compromise, which gave the small states what they wanted by stating that representation in the Senate would be equal across all of the states, but also gave the large states what they wanted by stating that representation in the House of Representatives would be based upon state population.

The 3/5 compromise settled the dispute over slaves and their population count in the US.  The states that owned a lot of slaves wanted their slaves to count towards their total population, however, the states with less slaves did not want slaves to count towards population.  This was settled as the delegates decided that each slave should count for 3/5 of a regular citizen when counting for population.

How should the government use John Locke's ideas for civil liberties? Can you provide two examples to support this? Bibliography
givi [52]

Answer:

Explanation:Often credited as a founder of modern “liberal” thought, Locke pioneered the ideas of natural law, social contract, religious toleration, and the right to revolution that proved essential to both the American Revolution and the U.S. Constitution that followed.

Locke favored a representative government such as the English Parliament, which had a hereditary House of Lords and an elected House of Commons. But he wanted representatives to be only men of property and business. The purpose of government, Locke wrote, is to secure and protect the God-given inalienable natural rights of the people. For their part, the people must obey the laws of their rulers. Thus, a sort of contract exists between the rulers and the ruled.

In 1848, how did society discourage a woman from taking a wage-earning job?
GuDViN [60]
They were discouraged because the law at that time stated that their earning basically belonged to their spouse, and also they couldn't own property, so they couldn't use their money in any way other than giving it to their husband. With this kind of a law, nobody would work.
