Mr. White's son felt that the monkey's paw was a big joke (D).

In this quote, “Well, I don't see the money,” said his son, as he picked it up and placed it on the  table, “and I bet I never shall," we can see that the son does not believe that the monkey paw has any magic. He thinks that it is a big joke and will not work.
