Well we can't see the stanza, but I'll tell you what rhymes  with Sags. Your answer will be Flags. As sags and flags both end in ags, they rhyme. The other three end kind of hard and none of them have the same sound besides the pair I listed above.

Agata [3.3K]

Answer:

It means that the walk from the prison-door to the marketplace seems trecherous and long to Hester Prynne.

Explanation:

Nathanael Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter" is about the story of Hester Prynne, a woman convicted of adultery, and the "<em>punishment</em>" that was given to her. The novel also deals with themes of society, religion, good vs. evil, public shaming, social stigma, etc.

In the given excerpt, the narrator is talking about the "walk" from the prison door to the marketplace where Hester will be 'on display' for the public to see. The narrator reveals,<em> "measured by the prisoner's experience, [the walk] might be reckoned a journey of some length"</em> which is how it was more of <em>"an agony from every footstep"</em> for Hester. These lines show how Hester thinks the walk is long and treacherous for her.

A. Before the salutation.

While the answer says <em>before</em> the salutation, I would say include it in the salutations.

Of mice and men: what does Crook say to lennie to get him upset?
pentagon [3]
Crooks teases Lennie about his lack of self-reliance; he tauntingly asks Lennie what he would do if George were injured. Unable to think hypothetically, Lennie thinks that George is actually under threat. With some difficulty, Crooks calms Lennie down and takes on a kindlier demeanor. His sour attitude remains, however, as he tells Lennie that his dreams of owning a farm with rabbits is unlikely to amount to anything tangible.
