Some inbred strains of the weedy plant Arabidopsis thaliana flower early in the growing season, but other strains flower at late

r times. Four different Arabdiposis plants (1–4) were crossed, and the resulting progeny were tabulated as follows: Mating Progeny 1 × 2 77 late : 81 early 1 × 3 134 late 1 × 4 93 late : 32 early 2 × 3 111 late 2 × 4 65 late : 61 early 3 × 4 126 late a. Explain the genetic basis for the difference in flowering time. How do you know that among this group of plants, the flowering time trait is influenced by the action of a single gene? Which allele is dominant and which recessive? b. Ascribe genotypes to the four plants. c. What kinds of progeny would you expect if you allowed plants 1–4 to self-fertilize, and in what ratios?

Answer:

a. Let us consider that L is responsible for late and l is responsible for early. From the mentioned data, it can be concluded that allele L or late is dominant over early. By crossing plants 1 and 4 we get the expected ratio of 3: 1, which shows that it follows Mendel's law of dominant.

b. The genotype of all the four plants are:

1st plant = Ll

2nd plant = ll

3rd plant = LL

4th plant = Ll

c. If the plant 1 is self-fertilized then the expected progeny will be 3 (late): 1 (early).

In case if the 2nd plant is self-fertilized, the expected progeny will be only early.

In case if the 3rd plant is self-fertilized, the expected progeny will be only late.

In case if the 4th plant is self-fertilized, the expected progeny will be 3 (late): 1 (early).

Roughly how many more atp’s can be produced via the complete aerobic oxidation of glucose compared to that produced by glycolysi
Lubov Fominskaja [6]

Roughly 15 times more ATP can be produced via the complete aerobic oxidation of glucose compared to that produced by glycolysis alone.

What is Glycolysis?

 • The metabolic process known as glycolysis turns the sugar glucose (C6H12O6) into pyruvate (CH3COCO2H). The high-energy molecules adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide are created using the free energy released during this process (NADH).
 • A series of ten enzyme-catalyzed processes make up glycolysis. the binding energy of carbs is captured. One metabolic route that doesn't require oxygen is glycolysis (In anaerobic conditions pyruvate is converted to lactic acid).
 • Glycolysis occurs frequently in various species, which suggests that it is an old metabolic route.
 • In fact, the events that makeup glycolysis and its companion process, the pentose phosphate pathway, take place in the oxygen-free environment of the Archean oceans, likewise in the absence of enzymes, and are catalyzed by metal.

Which is an abiotic factor that can be found in a rain forest ecosystem?
ss7ja [257]

Answer:

A. Air

Explanation:

Abiotic factors are things that are not living.

Air can be found in a rain forest ecosystem, as it can be found in all ecosystems, but it is not living.

On the other hand, algae, flowers, and animals are biotic instead of abiotic because they are living things.

So, A is the correct answer.

Which of the following is the best definition of a saturated fatty acid?
Oksi-84 [34.3K]
The best choice would be C.

A saturated fatty acid is a basic unit of lipid that consists of only single carbon to carbon bonds.

Saturated fatty acids have been “saturated” with hydrogen ions and only have single carbon to carbon bonds, unlike unsaturated fatty acids that have both single and double bonds and have kinks and aren’t straight.

Saturated fatty acids are solid in room temperature(animal fats) and unsaturated fatty acids are liquid in room temperature(oils/plant fats).
