Explanation:

Beach erosion may increase on the downdrift side of the jetties.

On the up drift side of a jetty there is accumulation of sand while the opposite effect takes place on the down drift side. This erosion is caused by the jetty due to the lack of  sand which is trapped on the other side. Ironically, Jetties,which are built to prevent erosion, end up causing more damage than providing a solution.
