Two life insurance policies, each with a death benefit of 10,000 and a one-time premium of 500, are sold to a couple, one for ea

ch person. The policies will expire at the end of the tenth year. The probability that only the wife will survive at least ten years is 0.025, the probability that only the husband will survive at least ten years is 0.01, and the probability that both of them will survive at least ten years is 0.96 . What is the expected excess of premiums over claims, given that the husband survives at least ten years?

Answer:896.9

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x denotes excess premium over claims

E\left ( x|husband survives\right ), There are two possibilities

(i)Only husband survives

This can be possible with a possibility of 0.01

Claims=10,000

Premium collected=2\times 500=1000

Thus x=1000-10,000=-9000

(ii)Both husband and wife survives

This can occur with a probability of 0.96

Here claims will be 0 as both survives

Premium taken=1000

thus x=1000

The probability that the husband survives is the sum of above cases

=0.96+0.01=0.97

Hence the desired conditional Expectation E\left ( x|Husband survives\right ) =0.01\times \left ( -9000\right )+0.96\times \left ( 1000\right )=896.9

Which algebraic expression is a polynomial? Which term could be put in the blank to create a fully simplified polynomial written
kifflom [539]

Answer:

x^3y and  x^2y^2

Step-by-step explanation:

An algebraic expression is a polynomial if and only if the variables involve have positive integral indices or exponents.

The given polynomial is: 8x^3y^2----------+3xy^2

We want to put one of the following polynomials in the blank space to create a fully simplified polynomial written in standard form.

-4y^3

x^2y^2

x^3y

7x^2y

7x^0y^3

A fully simplified polynomial written in standard form is obtained by writing the simplified polynomial in decreasing order according to degree.

Since the first term of  8x^3y^2----------+3xy^2 having a degree of 5 and the last term is having a degree of 3.

The polynomial that goes into the blank must have a degree of 4.

This eliminates -4y^3, 7x^2y

and 7x^0y^3

We are now left with x^2y^2 and x^3y

The required polynomial is therefore 8x^3y^2-x^2y^2+3xy^2 or8x^3y^2-x^3y+3xy^2

These two polynomials are in standard form and cannot be simplified further.

The correct choices are;

x^3y and  x^2y^2
