Alot of people in Europe were not educated because you had to have money to go to school and learn for example math the hard types so, the Europeans heard that there was people that were down south in the Arab region learning together the Europeans didn't even know where the number 0 came from they found out that it was first brought by the very intelligent scholars that were influenced by Isalm and the roots of the arab culure.

I'm not sure of his name, but it might have been Darius. If you want more info, search 'Gordian Knot'. There was supposedly a prophecy at the time stating that whoever could untie this immensely complicated knot that tied the king's horse yolk to his chariot would rule over Persia. When Alexander saw the knot he sliced it in two with his sword instead of trying to untie it. I'm pretty sure Darius (or whatever his name was)
