Answer:

The value of Y is 24 km and distance from A to C to B is AC+Y=18+24=42 km

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that A highway between points A and B has been closed for repairs. An alternative route between there two locations is to travel between A and C and then from C to B. we have to find the value of Y and the total distance from A to C to B. Let AB=Z

In ΔBCD and ΔABD

∠BCD=∠ABD (∵each 90°)

∠D=∠D (∵common)

By AA similarity, ΔBCD~ΔABD

∴ their corresponding sides are proportional

\frac{Y}{Z}=\frac{X}{40}=\frac{40}{18+X}

Comparing last two terms, we get

\frac{X}{40}=\frac{40}{18+x}

⇒ X(18+X)=1600

⇒ 18X+X^2=1600

⇒ X^2+18X-1600=0

⇒ X^2-32X+50X-1600=0

⇒ (X-32)(X+50)=0

Hence, the roots are X=32, -50

X=-50 not possible as distance can never negative.

Hence, X=32 km

By applying Pythagoras theorem in ΔBCD we get

BD^2=BC^2+CD^2

40^2=Y^2+32^2

⇒ Y^2=1600-1024=576

⇒ Y=\sqrt576=24km

Hence, the value of Y is 24 km and the distance from A to C to B is AC+Y=18+24=42 km

QUESTION 2. the feasible region shows the number of chairs x and tables y that a furniture company can build each week.
GalinKa [24]

Answer:

Part a) The company can not build 12 chairs and 5 tables

Part b) The company can build 18 chairs and 3 tables

Part c) The company can build 12,13,14,15,16 or 17 chairs

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

If a ordered pair is a solution, then the ordered pair must be belong to the feasible region of the graph

Part a) Can the company build 12 chairs and 5 tables?

In this problem we have the ordered pair A(12,5)

Plot and verify if the point belong to the feasible region of the graph

see the attached figure to better understand the problem

The point A is not on the feasible region

therefore

The company can not build 12 chairs and 5 tables

Part b) Can the company build 18 chairs and 3 tables?

In this problem we have the ordered pair B(18,3)

Plot and verify if the point belong to the feasible region of the graph

see the attached figure to better understand the problem

The point B is on the feasible region

therefore

The company can build 18 chairs and 3 tables

Part c) One week, the company decides to build 4 tables. how many chairs can the company build?

For y=4

Find the value of x in the graph

The solutions point for y=4 tables are

(12,4), (13,4),(14,4),(15,4),(16,4) and (17,4)

therefore

The company can build 12,13,14,15,16 or 17 chairs

Explain why a + b = d.
B
A
C
swer
bixtya [17]

Answer:

Explanation below

Step-by-step explanation:

Angles in a Triangle

There are two basic relations of angles we need to recall:

  • Supplementary angles add up to 180°
  • Internal angles of a triangle add up to 180°

Note a, b, and c are the internal angles of the triangle. The angle c is what is needed to a+b to complete 180°, thus:

c = 180 - ( a + b )

Also, note c and d are supplementary angles. Again, c is what is needed to d to complete 180°, thus

c = 180 - d

From the two relations above, it follows that:

a + b = d

Which of the following are solutions to the quadratic equation? Check all that
xenn [34]

Step-by-step explanation:

I don't see options but here's the solution

2x²+9x-3=-x²+x

2x²+x²+9x-x-3=0

3x²+8x-3=0

(3x-1)(x+3)=0

Therefore x=⅓ or-3
