Answer:

A: 3−34=94

B: The difference of the integers 2 and 34 is not an integers, 94, which does not demonstrate that integers are closed under subtraction.

Step-by-step explanation:

A set is closed under subtraction means if you can subtract any two numbers in the set and still have a number in the set as a result.

For instance, the set {1,−1} is closed under multiplication but not subtraction.

the wholesale price for a pair of shoes is $5.50. A certain department store marks up the wholesale price by 40%. Find the price
Furkat [3]

EXPLANATION

Price of shoes = $5.50

Markup= 40%

Let's call x to the unknown final price.

The markup percentage relationship is given by the following formula:

\text{Markup =( }\frac{Selling\text{ Price}-\text{Cost Price}}{\text{Cost Price}})\cdot100

Replacing terms:

\text{40}=(\frac{x-5.5}{5.5})\cdot100

Multiplying both sides by 5.5:

40\cdot5.5=(x-5.5)\cdot100

Dividing both sides by 100:

\frac{40\cdot5.5}{100}=x-5.5

Adding 5.5 to both sides:

(\frac{40\cdot5.5}{100})+5.5=x

Simplifyng the fraction:

2.2+5.5=x

Adding numbers:

\text{7}.7\text{ = x}

Switching sides:

x=7.7

Answer: The final price of the shoes in the deparment store is $7.7

I really need help! How would I solve this? 4(x−6)−3=2(3−2x)−5
IceJOKER [234]
First, we have to distribute the 4 outside the parenthesis on the left side.
Remember distributing just means multiplying.

So it would be,

4 times x and 4 times -6

That would equal

4x-24-3=2(3-2x)-5

Now the other side. For this side we distribute the 2 since there is a 2 outside of the parenthesis.

That would equal

2 times 3 and 2 times 2x

Which is 6-4x

We put this whole equation together so it would be

4x-24-3=6-4x-5

We combine the like terms so in this case it would be

4x-28=1-4x

Now here notice how I only added the numbers without x. This is because they were like terms meaning I could add, subtract or multiply, or divide them, but however the number with x are not like terms so therefore we cannot add, subtract, multiply or divide them.

Now we can bring the variables to one side in this case I will bring it to the left side.

So that would be adding 4x to the left side.

So that would be

8x-28=1

Notice how I added the 4x to the 4x I did this because they were like terms.

After this we can now add 28 to both sides.

So that would be 8x=29

Now we divided 8 on both sides so it would be

x=29/8

Or if we simplifies it could be

x=7/2 or x=3.5 or x= 3 1/2
