In order to not allow the communism to take over the peninsula, the USA got involved military, supporting the non-communist government from the South, fighting against the Soviet and Chinese supported communist North. Since non of the big forces managed to win, the Korean Peninsula was divided into spheres of interest, with North Korea being the communist one, and the South Korea being the capitalist one, thus dividing the same people in two different countries that developed deep hatred between each other.
