The government collects taxes to ensure that citizens contribute to meeting society’s needs.

Further explanation:

The government collects taxes for various purposes as it is the necessity of every society. The government collects tax for building infrastructure, funding public schools, paying salaries to police officers and politicians. Taxes are important in every society to meet the needs of the citizen.

SIGNIFICANCE OF TAX REVENUE

The tax in every society comes from the citizen’s income or it can be said that it comes from society and that income is used to meet the needs of the citizens of the country. It’s not necessary that what the government does will always be in favor of citizens of the society but the government tries its best to fulfill every citizen's needs.

The tax revenues cannot be used for private purposes as tax revenue is part of the income of the society and country’s economy so the government cannot use it for private purposes.
