Formal essays are used with proper English, and don't use pronouns or reference yourself

Some key differences:
Formal essays usually have a formal manner in them. If you were to speak the essay out loud, then your audience would probably get the feeling that this was a very important essay, and seriousness would probably be found.

In an informal essay, there would often be slangs, unprofessional use of wording, that kind of stuff. When you read it out loud, you might provide the audience with a small laugh of sorts.

What finally convinced the villagers to accept Rip Van winkles story
Usimov [2.4K]
It was Peter Vanderdonk, a descendant of a historian, who convinced the villagers to accept Rip Van Winkle's story. He said that everything Rip described about the time period he was coming from was true, and that there was no need to doubt his words. Thus, everyone believed Peter (as he was a successor of a learned man) and Rip was readmitted into his society.

In your own words, define the meaning of ‘cyclical structure’ and explain what is meant by contrasting beginnings and openings.
ss7ja [257]
Basically you have a motif of something eg fruit. Then that motif gets repeated at the end. So even if you have a contrasting beginning and end you can still have like a sentence that repeats cyclically eg ‘humanity can be saved’ or something like that.

A theme or motif or phrase etc that recurs or goes back to the beginning, at the end

cyclical structure is like when when the end situations are in some way the same as they are at the beginning.

It can foreshadow or make you sort of guess what might happen at the end
