Equations given:
10x+4y=12
x-4y=10

Step 1: Cancel out the y to find x (because one is <span>positive </span>4y and one is negative 4y, they cancel each other out)

10x+4y=12
 x-4y=10
11x=22
 x=2

Step 2: Plug x back into one of the equations (I chose the second one b/c it was easier but it doesn't matter. You should get the same answer either way)

x-4y=10
2-4y=10
-4y=8
y=-2

Optional step: if you plug the answers back into the equations, you should get the right answers.

What is 25% off of $120.00 plus 7.8 sales tax
Marizza181 [45]
First of all, 25% of means that the new price was 75% of the original price, so:
25% off of $120.00
120.00×75%=$90.00
7.8% percent taxes
$90×7.8%=$7.02
Finally,
$90.00+$7.02=$97.02 is your final answer. Hope it help!

What is the correct description for the system of linear equations?
AlladinOne [14]
Y = x + 1......slope = 1, y int = 1
y = x + 2.....slope = 1, y int = 2

In y = mx + b form, the slope can be found in the m position and the y int can be found in the b position.

if the equations have the same slope, but different y int, then u have a set of parallel lines which never cross...therefore they have no solution and are inconsistent

Find the equation of the line specified. The line passes through the points (-2, 3) and (-4, 7) a. y = -2x - 1 b. y = -2x + 3 c.
Soloha48 [4]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

To do this we will first use the slope formula to find the slope of the line. Given 2 points, you can't do anything else BUT find the slope. Always start there. The slope formula is:

m=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

Plugging in our values from the points where y2 is 7, y1 is 3, x2 is -4 and x1 is -2:

m=\frac{7-3}{-4-(-2)}=\frac{7-3}{-4+2}=\frac{4}{-2}=-2

So the slope is -2. Now we will pick either point and use the x and y coordinates to fill in the point-slope form of a line, which is:

y-y_1=m(x-x_1)

where y1 and x1 are the coordinates from the point we pick, and m is the slope we just solved for. It doesn't matter which point you pick to use as your x and y coordinates; either one will give you the exact same equation...PROMISE!!

I chose (-2, 3), no reason in particular. x1 is -2 and y1 is 3:

y-3=-2(x-(-2)) which simplifies a bit to

y - 3 = -2(x + 2) and a bit more to

y - 3 = -2x - 4 and even more to

y = -2x - 4 + 3 and finally to our final line in slope-intercept form:

y = -2x - 1

Choice a.
