  1. The food was collected and delivered on time by the students. To change from the active voice to the passive voice, you have to take the object of the sentence and turn it into the subject. Since this new subject did not do the action, the verb will now be written as a past participle.
  2. The window is open and the breeze is let in. Here, there were 2 objects in the original sentence: "window" and "breeze."
  3. The stranded visitors were rescued by the soldiers and taken to nearby hotels.
  4. Many flowers are planted in my garden. Here, it is understood that the person owning the garden is the one who planted the flowers ("in <em>my</em> garden"). Therefore, you don't need to write "planted <em>by me</em>" because that would be redundant and ugly.
  5. The work needs to be completed. Sometimes, when the active voice was using the imperative mode, you have to get a little creative when rewriting it in the passive voice. You can use modals like <em>need</em>, <em>may</em>, or <em>should</em> so that your sentence makes sense.
  6. She may be given what she wants.
  7. The banks are extensively eroded by the river.
  8. The book should be placed on the corner table.
  9. A purple flower was pecked at by a nightingale.
  10. The gazelles were chased by the hungry lion.
  11. Her car will have been driven a hundred miles by then.
  12. The clowns were watched perform tricks by Suresh and Vishal.
  13. The tree was cut down by the woodcutter using his axe.
  14. Sweets were brought from Locknow by Apoorv.
  15. After the rain, the parking area was filled with water.

Select all the correct answers. Which two excerpts appear toward the end of the plot structure of Jack London's "Up the Slide"?
marusya05 [52]

Answer:

He sat down and looked at the treacherous snow-covered slope. It was manifestly impossible for him to make it with a whole body, and he did not wish to arrive at the bottom shattered like the pine tree.

Halting his dogs beneath, on the river ice, he looked up, and after some searching, rediscovered it. Being dead, its weather-beaten gray so blended with the gray wall of rock that a thousand men could pass by and never notice it. Taking root in a cranny, it had grown up, exhausted its bit of soil, and perished. Beneath it the wall fell sheer for a hundred feet to the river.
