Scientists are interested in determining if selenium, from a nearby mine, magnifies in the tissues of fish living in a lake. Whi

ch of the following best describes a testable hypothesis for the study?
a.Tissue from fish in the lake will have a higher level of selenium than tissue from fish in a nearby lake.
b. Selenium will be at a higher concentration in fish tissue than in the tissue of fish prey.
c. Fish will have a higher concentration of selenium than mercury in their tissues.
d. Selenium will be at a higher concentration in acid mine drainage than in fish tissues.

Answer:

The answer is A.

Explanation:

To test if the selenium from the mine has an effect on the fish living in the lake which i assume is close to the mine, testing the tissue of the fish from that lake and comparing it to the selenium levels of the fish from a nearby lake would be a testable hypothesis because there is a comparable aspect and there should be a difference in the numbers between the fish from the two lakes because of their distance to the mine.

g Identify the statements that accurately describe how hydrogen ion concentration relates to energy production in oxidative phos
masha68 [24]

Answer:

- Hydrogen ion concentration is lower in the mitochondrial matrix than in the intermembrane space.

- Oxidative phosphorylation relies on the hydrogen ion concentration gradient generated and maintained by the electron transport chain.

- Hydrogen ions enter the mitochondrial matrix via facilitated diffusion.

Explanation:

Oxidative phosphorylation is a metabolic pathway by which Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) molecules are produced through the transfer of electrons from NADH or FADH2 to molecular oxygen (O2). The hydrogen (H+) ions are pumped from the mitochondrial matrix to the intermembrane space, and this movement of protons generates an electrochemical gradient across the mitochondrial membrane which is used by the ATP synthase to produce ATP. This gradient is generated by the movement of electrons through a series of electron carriers (e.g., cytochrome c and ubiquinone) that are embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane. The movement of these H+ ions across the semipermeable mitochondrial membrane moving down their electrochemical gradient is named chemiosmosis and is an example of facilitated diffusion.

MRNA is read 5->3
Start codons can vary depending on the cell/organism type although more generally for mRNA it is always: AUG which is always Methionine

Stop codons for mRNA are:

What is RFLP? What are some of the limitations of this technique?
bearhunter [10]
In molecular biology, restriction fragment length polymorphism, orRFLP, is a technique that exploits variations in homologous DNA sequences. It refers to a differencebetween samples of homologous DNAmolecules from differing locations ofrestriction enzyme sites, and to a related laboratory technique by which these segments can be illustrated. InRFLP analysis, the DNA sample is broken into pieces and (digested) byrestriction enzymes and the resultingrestriction fragments are separated according to their lengths by gel electrophoresis. Although now largely obsolete due to the rise of inexpensive DNA sequencing technologies, RFLP analysis was the first DNA profilingtechnique inexpensive enough to see widespread application. RFLP analysis was an important tool in genome mapping, localization of genes forgenetic disorders, determination of riskfor disease, and paternity testing.
Hope it helps..
