In psychology and substance consumption, the term tolerance refers to the process by which a person no longer response to a substance in the way the did at the first place and therefore, they start requiring larger doses of the substance to obtain the results they got in the first place. Therefore, a person would start with a lower consumption of a substance but will gradually increase the dose in order to get the same effect since the body will adapt to it.
Therefore, we can say that tolerance is a process by which the body increasingly adapts to the use of a substance, requiring larger and larger doses of it to obtain the same effects, and eventually reaching a plateau.
