The 1968 National Convention of the Democratic Party was held in Chicago from August 26 to 29, with the purpose of electing the candidate for the 1968 presidential election. The decision was particularly difficult for the Democrats that year, due to the splitting of the party for the War of Vietnam, and for the murder of the popular candidate Robert Kennedy. On the one hand, Eugene McCarthy proposed a determined anti-war campaign, calling for the immediate withdrawal of the region. On the other hand, Hubert H. Humphrey made a call for a policy closer to that of President Lyndon Johnson, which focused on making any reduction of contingent force in the concessions drawn in the Paris Peace Talks. The Democrats finally stayed with Hubert H. Humphrey.
